Čika’s cross

A replica of the pectoral cross worn in the 11th century by Čika, the renovator of the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary’s. On one side of the cross there is a depiction of the crucifixion of Christ, and on the other side a depiction of Virgin Mary in the attitude of prayer. On each side of the cross there are four busts of saints. Since it originates from the end of the 7th / beginning of the 8th century, this cross is the oldest object kept in the Permanent Exhibition of Religious Art, and it contains, like in a box, a relic of St. Fortunatus.
